Competing in the sprinting component of track and field, she reached the finals, placing fourth in the metre sprint and sixth in the metre run. Murray qualified for nationals, which were held in Cape Breton in , Alberta in and Brampton, Ont.
A National Coaching Certification Program-qualified coach, she wanted to encourage more triathlon participants by starting a club. Hoping to reduce her blood pressure, Murray saw the sport as a means to get healthier in a supportive atmosphere.
At the age of 58 she took part in her first Just for Fun Triathlon. The Town of St. Paul hosted participants at the 9th biennial Alberta Seniors Games. Since was also St. The biennial Alberta Seniors Games changed to the odd-numbered years.
The Towns of Olds and Didsbury jointly hosted over participants in The 13 th Alberta Seniors Games were held in Ft. McMurray; a unique experience for the participants. Almost participants enjoyed a number of popular winter sports and some of the summer games activities that were transferred to the Winter Games. These Games were made possible through the Alberta Centennial program. The Alberta Seniors Games summer were staged in Wetaskiwin. Expanded age groups and events in the remaining summer activities kept the number of participants close to Close to Albertans aged 55 and over took part in 12 activities.
Sixteen activities and 2 cultural competitions were held for close to participants. Thirteen activities were the draw for close to participants. These dedicated seniors talked to any and all who would listen, including senior members of the Alberta Government. These first games were so successful and so impressed the then Premier Peter Lougheed and his ministers that the then Minister of Recreation and Parks authorized the holding of regular Senior Games in Alberta every second year.
