But I had the option "Give me updates for Microsoft products and check for new optional Microsoft software when I update windows" turned on which I disabled now. Also could you tell me how to go to the window which contains those options, I just lost it after I disabling and now I can't find the place where those options are present?

When I click on the icon, I am brought to the Windows Live login page, where my login name is set but I am asked for my password. I use XP sp2 and Firefox. Same issue on both PCs. I have never used Trillian on the PC I am typing this message on. You can actually still use MSN Messenger 7. There is a trick. After insallation, shut down the program, browse to msnmsgr. Then start up msnmsgr. I want to get the latest version of Windows Messenger, because my one is old and bad, but whenever i go onto the update site, it says internet cannot display webpage.

Windows Live Messenger opens everytime I boot up my laptop, and it does not allow me to unpin it from the taskbar. Short of uninstalling this program if this is even possible , how can I stop it from opening at startup and unpin it permanently from the task bar?
